During the years the club has had many players who have then started their professional career abroad. Some of these are players like Aleksei Jeremenko, Mikael Forssell, Aki Riihilahti, Antti Niemi, Hannu Tihinen and many more. Veli Lampi (Willem II), Jukka Raitala (Hoffenheim/Paderborn) and Perparim Hetemaj (Brescia Calcio) represent some of the latest talents.

HJK youth model

HJK youth model for boys and girls is divided in two different organizations: HJK-Juniors Ry– for suburbian teams and HJK Ry - first teams of every age group

Suburbs

HJK junior's suburb teams are located in 9 suburbs around Helsinki and there are around 1300 boys and 200 girls in all age groups playing in those teams. For most of them football is just a hobby and they are training 2-4 times a week. Coaching is usually done by active fathers and mothers. For those teams HJK is offering education, training fields, tournaments. Talented and motivated suburb players can also be selected into first teams. Typically the  first draft of F9 team is primarily collected from HJK-j suburb teams.

First teams

HJK has boys junior first teams in all age groups from F-9 to A-19. Each team has 2 nominated coaches, team manager and 14-22 players in each team depending on age. The club provides two goalkeeper coaches for juniors. In years 10-14 the team trains 3-4 times a week and in years 15-19 5-6 times a week. Players who are selected into sport high schools and into HJK's talent academy will get additional training sessions. Players will also get personal training programs and they are tested 2-3 times/year. The most talented players are playing with older age groups.

The main goals for first team players are to develop their individual skills to a level where players can be selected into Helsinki area teams, youth national teams and into HJK league team.

HJK has good relations with many European football countries and the teams in each age group participate annually, and are often, invited to international football tournaments. The most talented players have got invitations from teams like Ajax, Werder Bremen, Tottenham, Aston Villa.
