Flexapod fixturing - D-Flex 6

The Flexapod is a reconfigurable fixture unit profoundly used for holding parts during assembly. One of the Flexpods delivered by DELFOi is the D-Flex 6, which is a parallell-mecanical device that consists of one base plate, six legs and a top plate. On the top plate is mounted a tool changing unit to attach flags, pickups or metrology probes. The Flexapod range varies from D-Flex 601 for pedestal attachment, D-Flex 602 for smaller range and the D-Flex 603 for longer range.  The D-Flex 6 units are manually configured with the D-Flex 6 manipulators. The D-Flex 6 manipulators are attached on the legs during final adjustment.

Once the CAD position is reached the D-Flex 6 manipulators are moved to the next D-Flex 6 so only 6 manipulators are necessary for a multiple number of flexapods. The D-Flex 6 are locked trough a high quality locking sleeve that ensure rigid locking. The D-Flex 6 units are manuvered in CATIA V5 using the D-Flex 6 configurator. When all D-Flex 6 units are configured in CAD a D-Flex 6 file is generated, which contain all positions of the top plates and base plates. The D-Flex 6 file is then loaded into the D-Flex 6 control panel, which is used to configure the physical D-Flex 6 units in the work shop.
