Consulting – Logistics simulation
Developing logistics with simulation
Simulation is a very powerful tool to analyze and develop your supply chain and its components. Also many features of logistics systems can accurately modeled only with discrete-event-simulation. Transportation chain planning, warehouse location and working capital or service-level optimization accurately typically requires, that time element is included in the model. Simulation can be used to test, how the supply chain function as a whole, when one or several of it’s components are changed (e.g. train or ferry schedules, capacities, sales and supply responsibilities of different regions, adding or eliminating warehouses and factories, etc.).
With simulation models, you can analyze complete supply chains, individual facilities (such as warehouses, logistic centers, ports) and in the most detailed level automation systems (such as conveyors, automated warehouses, picking robots). Delfoi has extensive experience in simulating existing and completely new systems. Simulation can help to ensure that a minor change in logistics or a bigger investment actually works and the modified system meets the requirements, both in terms of speed, service level and cost.

Supply chain and logistics simulation modelling
Simulation is an inexpensive, quick and safe way to examine supply chains as well as the operations inside it’s of facilities and their automation systems. Computer simulation means modelling the performance actual or planned system, such as a plant, over time. When it comes to the analysis of large-scale logistic systems, the advantage of discrete-event- simulations is that all the complexity of the process, rules and restrictions can be included in the model precisely enough. Interaction of process, interdependent events, logistic control methods and huge amount of parameters can be considered, when simulation is udes.
For example, simulation can be used to re-configure delivery schedules inside the plant, or test how inbound and outbound logistics schedule changes would affect the operations as a whole. Logistics work processes, supply chain management and resource capacity are easily changed in the simulation, so that the effect of individual changes becomes visible across the entire supply chain. The simulation model can data from use existing systems such as ERP, transportation schedule planning & tracking, inventory management systems, and process charts.
The simulation model provides technical and financial reports for comparison of different scenarios. In addition to numerical simulation the changes and updates are presented graphically with 3D animation. The same model is understood by employees as well as marketing and operational management.
Teamwork with our customers
Delfoi’s experience of more than 1000 simulation projects is based on good teamwork with our customers. The project team always consist of experts from both the customer company and Delfoi. This ensures that the end result takes all necessary factors into account and that the results are more easily put into action in real-life, when key personnel has been involved in the process.
