SEVERT CHOOSES DELFOI ARC FOR FLEXIBLE AND EASY PROGRAMMING AND MANUFACTURING

SEVERT’S TARGET – MORE FLEXIBILITY AND EFFICIENCY, SHORTER PROGRAMMING TIME AND AVAILIBILITY OF ROBOT CELLS 

To meet customer demands flexibility is crucial. The trend in manufacturing of steel components is going towards small and medium sized lots and shorter batch sizes.

Berthold Elkemann is an expert in programming welding robots, and he propelled offline programming at Severt forward for several years.

With DELFOI ARC Severt optimized the programming of their robot systems.

Thanks to the excellent user interface and programming tools the programming time was reduced and availability of the robot cell was increased. Flexible manufacturing in the Severt plants is now possible, which means that robot cells can be changed easily, even if different robot-brands are involved. Severt has more than ten different robot systems in their own welding and cutting shop.

WELDING OF SMALL BATCHES AT SEVERT WITH DELFOI SUPPORT

A robot is much more efficient than a human being, but welding workpieces in small and medium batches is often not beneficial as it requires programming for robotic applications. That is why Severt was looking for software that allows easy and quick programming. After careful consideration, Delfoi’s software was chosen as best suited for Severt.

Programming of chassis parts now only takes a few minutes, and small or customized changes are not a problem. It is also possible to switch the robot cell with components and be flexible in production.

FUTURE CHALLENGES

Head of development Dr. Thomas Naber explains that Severt faces different challenges in the future. Severt develops complete robot systems for customers in different branches. In cooperation with their partners they will develop high-end robot systems that include a digital welding chain. The digital welding chain consists of interfaces between robot control, CAD systems, offline programming software, welding equipment, quality systems and sensors.

In the end, Severt sells productivity solutions to the customers. All activities lead to finding the commercially best way for production. Besides Severt’s core competencies also strong partners are needed and Delfoi is one of them.

Since the company was founded by Wilhelm Severt in 1964 Severt has grown constantly, and in 1997 a second modern plant was established in Gorlice, Poland.
